Membership Guidelines

Residents

A Mackenzie Public Library card is free for any resident of the District of Mackenzie or Electoral Area ‘G’ of the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George. Applicants for library cards must show photo identification and proof of current, permanent residence in our service area.

Acceptable Primary Identification

  • Driver’s License
  • BCID Card
  • BC Services Card (CareCard)
  • Passport
  • Mackenzie Secondary School ID Card
  • Other government-issued Canadian photo ID

If the primary identification does not show a current address within our service area, one of the proof of residence documents showing that information must also be shown. The proof of residence document must be no older than three months.

Proof of Residence Documents

  • Rental agreement (signed)
  • Official mail (e.g. utility bill, tax assessment etc.)
  • Bank statement or personalized cheque

Any person 13 years of age and older may register for their own library card.  Teens without a Driver’s License or a BCID may use a valid Mackenzie Secondary School ID card.

Provided their account is in good standing, there is no limit to the number of items a resident member may borrow at one time.

Children’s Memberships

Children 12 years of age and under must be registered by a parent or guardian.*  A BC CareCard for the child and acceptable identification for the parent or guardian must be presented at the time of registration.  The parent or guardian who registers the child is responsible for all material checked out on the card and all fines owing.

*Exceptions will be made under the “Every Child a Card” grade 7 program. Grade 7s who are 12 years old will be issues Adult cards and are responsible for their own borrowing.

Provided their account is in good standing, there is no limit to the number of items a resident juvenile member may borrow at one time.

BC OneCard

Visitors to Mackenzie may register for a BC OneCard by presenting a valid library card from another B.C. public library in addition to a valid piece of identification.  The card will be valid for 3 months.

Patrons with BC OneCards may borrow up to 10 items at a time.

Temporary Card

Individuals who do not qualify for a local card or a BC OneCard may register for a temporary,  non-refundable fee of $9 per month for as long as required.

Patrons with temporary cards may borrow up to 10 items at a time.

Access Card

Low-income residents may apply for an Access Card, which offers the same range of access to our collections but doesn’t accrue overdue fines. Get this card by applying for a free 1-year Access Pass at the Mackenzie Recreation Centre. In your package, you’ll get a library card. Bring that in to set up your 1-year account with us!

Patrons with Access Cards may borrow as many items as they wish at one time, but their account will be temporarily suspended from further borrowing if two or more items are overdue.

 

Note: Everyone who registers for a library card is responsible for everything that is signed out on that card and all fines owing.  Lost cards must be reported immediately as the registered person is responsible for all activity on the card until it is reported lost.
