Use the Seed Library

Step 1: Become a member

Fill out a Seed Library Membership Form and drop it off at the Mackenzie Public Library. Paper forms are also available at the Library.

Step 2: Borrow Seeds

During planting season, select the seeds you want from the Library and enter your choices into your tracking log. (Limit 5 packets per person.)

Step 3: Grow, grow, save!

Plant and nurture your garden. Enjoy the fruits of your labours, but remember to save some seeds to return to the Seed Library for next season.

The Mackenzie Community Garden Society will be offering workshops and hosting speakers on all sorts of gardening and seed saving topics over the summer. Become a Friend of the Community Garden to get on the mailing list for upcoming event. Contact Erik Olson and Amber Hancock for more details or check out the Community Garden Society Facebook page.

Step 4: Complete the cycle

Return the seeds collected from two or three of your best plants from each packet you borrowed. When returning your seeds, fill out one seed envelope per seed type. Volunteers will portion your donation out into separate envelopes and store them over the winter, ready for a new crop next year!

** If you are unable to collect seeds from your Seed Library plants, we recommend a replacement donation of store-bought open-pollinated, organic, heirloom seeds to help keep our collection robust.
